What does it mean to network using social media?
In our modern society, people are more rely on internet to learn their knowledge, they are getting new knowledge from different ways, social media, online class, and gaming etc. During this pandemic, people are isolated without creating new network to knowing new people and learning online. Nowadays, social media create a new platform to get people to meet and learn from another person. It creates an online community to allow people to communicate and create a new network online.
How are we motivated to participate in networked publics?
The online network creates a new platform to learn online, communication with long distance friends or family. People are no longer to wait for the reply from others, it motivated people to use online social media for work, learning, and sharing new idea.
What are the risks & rewards of public communications?
From my perspective, the risks of public communications are personal information might not be safe, but public communications provide better social network. For example, Facebook, people can see other’s personal profile quickly knowing the person, the social network help people to find people who has same habitat and interest.
What is a digital identity?
I would define a digital identity a person’s behavior and personality. What you post on blog, and what you share on public community affect your digital identity. It is a way in which one presents themselves on social media. From my perspective, digital identity is a person’s personality, but they might not behave their personality in real life.
How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?
The footprint on social media cannot easily to be erased, the digital identity is a foundation way how people represent online. While personal or professional approaches to digital identity are different. For personal approaches, people can use social medias to find other people who has same interest, some people will hide their digital identities on social media. This would affect the social media use; more people would not trust the digital identity on social media. How we know the digital identity is reliable, and who can trust online?
However, professional approaches to digital identity could are different. Professional approaches could be more secure, private, and reliable; the digital survey could affect their career. It might help the company to identify a person digital identity more reliable and more accurate.
How do digital identities converge in networked publics – what are the impacts and/or benefits?
Digital identities could help company to find their employee, and whether the person is the one they want. The benefit for check digital identities is the company has more reference for their employee behavior and personality, also they know their employee faster by using digital identities. The impact for digital identities is people can lie or create fake digital identities for their benefit, the company could not truly know employee’s personality from digital identities.

Hello Sail, great post. On your definition of Digital ID, I agree with you on the fact that digital personalities might not be an accurate reflection of a person’s physical personality. This is honestly because a number of people “hide behind the keyboard”. It’s quite common to find naturally shy individuals being bold online. Digital Identity is therefore often marred by a number of fake personalities. And therefore as you mentioned, there is great challenge when it comes to differentiating real from fake online.
